The Queen's Awards for
Professor Mike McMahon, the internationally renowned laparoscopic gastro-intestinal surgeon in leeds, UK, who was the first user of lotus, explained: “The advantage of LOTUS is that it is a little quicker and more effective at controlling larger blood vessels than much of the competitive technology. It helps patients get back on their feet more quickly because of its speed and ability to reduce blood loss and means that recovery is usually less painful.”
one of the first users of lotus, who also helped develop the device, is Derriford Hospital Consultant Gynaecologist and 2010 president of the british society for gynaecological endoscopy, Jonathan Frappell. He said: "Since I first tried out the prototype LOTUS shears and realised the tremendous potential they offered for advances in keyhole surgery, I have been delighted to have been involved in their development and see that promise come to fruition. As a surgeon, one appreciates the precision and safety that LOTUS offers to patients when cutting and sealing tissue, particularly when operating on delicate structures such as the bowel and female pelvic organs. It has been very exciting working with the team at SRA over the years, and I wish them all the very best for the future."
